Audience - why and how do you consume music?

How do you consume music?
When? do you have a daily music routine? Is some music more suitable at a certain time of day than another?

I try to listen to music whenever i can. Everyday i listen to music whilst on the bus to school, sometimes in lesson, in the car, at parties etc. I prefer to listen to music on my phone through headphones rather than out loud other than when i'm getting ready to go out, then ill play it on my tv or speakers.I like the idea that no one can judge what you're listening to. I don't really have a music routine i normally just shuffle all the songs or go onto my recently played.

Who with?
Do you share your music or is it an individual experience?

I usually listen to my music on my own but if i'm in the car or getting ready to go out with friends i will share it with them. Most of my friends share the same music taste as i do but they ones that don't are still happy to listen to my taste in music.

Star Profile - Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus
Hannah Montana
Miley Cyrus became an sensation overnight in 2006 as the lead of the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana, but as the years went on, she established herself as a pop star on her own. Miley was cast in the title role of Hannah Montana and after debuting in March 2006, Hannah Montana became a success with young viewers and led to the release of a soundtrack CD in October, featuring Miley singing eight songs from the show along with five related tracks.
A reissue of the Hannah Montana album followed in March 2007, not long after the show's theme song, "The Best of Both Worlds" was released as a single. platinum hit. A short album, The Time of Our Lives, arrived several months later and another hit was released called "Party in the U.S.A" which charted inside the Billboard Top Ten for 16 weeks. Miley Cyrus performed the song on the "Wonder World Tour," her first international tour, and also found time to film another movie, The Last Song, which hit theaters in 2010. Dry The River - No Rest

In class we played the song 'No Rest' by Dry the River and whilst closing our eyes we had to visualise a music video.

My idea was that there was a man laying in a field whilst it was raining this was shown. He would be reflecting on his memories from his previous relationship. he would then get up and walk towards the camera whilst still singing. It would then show you the memories from his relationship but it would be sunny.

Others in our class came up with different ideas, here are some examples...
  • An old peasant searching for gold is then chased by roman soldiers. Its all for love, and wanted the gold to give to his wife.
  • A man walking with parts of his body slowly turning to ash. The end of the music video, he ends up as a pile of ash.
  • A man in an empty house looking at photos, the house then starts to shake and all the pictures smash in front of him.
  • A black and white image of the main vocalist is shown with a dark background, then cuts to a woman walking down the isle. Then turns to colour. She turns around and leaves the main vocalist standing alone.
  • A close up of a mans face with the sky behind him. The band playing in the air. A woman then floats past and the man tries to grab her.

This is the actual music video:

What music means to me

Childhood:
Avril Lavigne-Sk8er Boi

For my childhood song i chose Avril Lavigne because in year 4 i entered a talent show with a few of my friends and performed this song, ever since then to my early teens i was obsessed with her and her music.

Early teens:
Miley Cyrus-7 things

For my early teens song i chose to do Miley Cyrus. When the Hannah Montana hype started in 2004 she wanted to be known for something other than Hannah Montana so she released this album in 2008. I just remember being completely obsessed with this song.

Present:
The 1975-Robbers

I'm currently listening to The 1975's album. Robbers is probably one of my favourite songs from the album. My taste in music has dramatically changed since my early teens.

Analysis for The 1975's girls music video

Girls by the 1975 uses developing conventions of both narrative and performance to produce an entertaining and enjoyable music video. It clearly shows the band playing their own music instruments and singing to the audience. It represents the genre in which the 1975 are considered  to be under which is indie music. from the watching the video the 1975 does have reference to voyeurism as the music video particularly shows women, bringing attention to their bodies due to the outfit choices and the choreography. it portrays the woman in a sexual way in which links well with the lyrics they have created. Similarly in most indie music videos, we see bands performing which represents the genre. they have experimented with the style of this music video compared to previous ones they have produced which are usually in black and white. For this song, they have used a pure white background which represents them in a very different way. To adds some variation to the misc video, it has included three girls which represent the boys, this resembles the title of the song and makes it much more intriguing. Here the relationship between the lyrics and visuals does amplify the performance within the music video. within the video, they have shown a creative side. they have made the title of the song out of flowers in a wide range of colours. this could be a representation of how boys see girls, in terms of flowers and colourful things. the use of this within the video makes it applicable for both men and women.

Analysis for Beyonce's Love on top music video

In Beyonce's music video for Love on Top there is a clear relationship between the music and the visuals. The video cuts to the beat, as seen above the video cuts from a close up to a birds eye long shot before cutting to a medium shot all in time to the beat. As the music becomes faster paced so does the video. In the video there is no narrative it is completely performance. The artist is the focal point of the video with many close ups and solo shots of Beyonce. The record company have used sex appeal to attract an audience. They have used her costumes and dance to give the video sex appeal. This is conventional of female R&B artist and is often used in Beyonces other music video. However just as male R&B artists often use female dancers in the back of their video, Beyonce has used male dancers and has switched the conventional gender roles in an R&B video.
